Alright, my first regular conversation meet-up with my Thai partner
Plengchart. We are still in the process
of getting to know each other, and understand each other’s interests and goals
for this exchange. I hope he doesn't mind me jotting the occasional note, I don’t plan on mentioning it but I won’t hide
it either. My memory is not great so
these will probably come in handy if I procrastinate. The majority of our time today is spent
taking about where we are from. I told him a bit about Jamaica, and used it as
an excuse for being bad with cold weather. Plengchart told me about the different types
of environments in Thailand. Apparently they have some really nice trails for
hiking in the mountains, and he recommends that I go there if I have the chance
to visit Thailand. We also talked about things to do and places to go in
Tallahassee and we decided to go to AZU after the semester is over.
I know language
learning is a slow road, but he is still
having trouble with is pluralization.
His pronunciation may be problematic but I don’t have any issues
understanding him. This is somewhat difficult
for me; I know some people have serious trouble understanding accents but I’m
fairly acclimated to most East Asian accents to the point that I don’t always
hear it. I’ll need to listen harder and
more thoughtfully next time.
