I met with YoonJoo today via Skype. We had emailed back and forth regarding a paper she is writing for her Public Opinion class. I told her I'd review and discuss any major issues with her outline today via Skype. Our session was regarding mostly formatting papers for US Education. I noticed she used several sources without citations. In my attempt to explain, I told her that maybe because we don't generally trust people, as a society we wish to check for backup so we need to be able to see the works you are using as sources. She basically was just showing me her ideas, its not a finished product by any means. I think she has 11 pages left to write. But, she's nervous about making grammatical errors.
We also discussed her issues with difficulties writing in an American style. She said she had so much to say, but it wouldn't make sense to an American the way she was thinking. I thought of our Writing Across Borders video, and definitely sympathized with her. We will be emailing back and forth and meeting again Wednesday.
