Alex CP 5

After watching the soccer games at CIES with Mubarak I hung out with Mohammed for a little. First and foremost, I know he likes to listen to music so I had to show his some trance music. Just like anything I’ve ever tried to show he said “What is this shit” with the smallest possible smirk. He kills me. While I was on his YouTube I noticed he watched these videos of this guy named William Ray Johnson. I pulled it up and it was a weird guy with a tasteless and crude sense of humor. Jokingly I said “Nah, you don’t want to watch this, check this out” and pulled up FunnyorDie.com, a website created by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. We watched a video and went through some funny pictures. What I quickly saw, which I’d never realized, was most of the humor I’ve ever enjoyed and unconsciously appreciated was rooted in the fundamental comedic ideals of American culture. So naturally, some of the stuff, like a Zach Galifinakis video that parodied American talk shows, went right over his head. However I found these pictures of bad ad placement that resulted in awkward or ironic meanings that I thought he might enjoy, such as these two. It was interesting because you’d pull it up and kind of watch him hunt for the reason why it was funny before actually laughing. I was there with Kim and she and I would get it about 7-10 seconds before he would. Nevertheless he did still enjoy them, giving me an idea for a possible exercise or class warm-up. We looked at some more things and chatted for a little before I left and went to class.
