Tyler Izuagie CP1
I was extremely nervous in meeting my conversation partner, mainly because I didn't know what to expect. I wanted to make sure I respected his culture, I didn't want say any of the wrong things. When we finally meet, most of this uncertainty went away. But it didn't take long for me to recognize the differences in our cultures. For example, we decided to meet at FSU before going to our destination since he couldn't GPS it. When I told him that he could follow me, he insisted that we ride together! At first I was taken aback, I wasn't expecting someone I had just met to hop in my car so freely. I took his forwardness as if it were a possible norm in his country, while realizing that in America, this most likely would not have taken place. Eventually, I was glad he insisted. It gave us more opportunity to talk with each other. Alvaro is from Bolivia. He has come to the States to study architecture and increase his English fluency. I was amazed at how well he spoke. I told him that his English sounded fine to me. He then replied that he is only 80% accurate! I love his ambition. I am definitely looking forward to our next meeting! He has agreed to show me some things on the guitar! Oh yeah!
