Preston Baker TP 1

On Tuesday I had my first tutoring session with my partner Li Su. We had met briefly once before so I could get a better idea of what she wanted to work on during our tutoring sessions. Her main area of concern is Listening to lectures and her strongest point  is composition. When she has finished her session and passed the TOEFL she plans to get an accounting degree from FSU.   So bearing that in mind I gathered a few videos and listening samples from the web and some questions about them ready. The first lecture I tried was way to hard, so I had to scale it back. I wanted to use a interview from BBC but it wasn't available at the time. So I went with plan C. I pulled out a 2 minute clip of a sitcom with a man and his wife speaking to each other about their childhood summer. It was just the right level. She was able to get 60-70% on the first listen. We then went back and I asked some more detailed questions about the conversation.  We also went over the idiomatic ( I thinks that is the word) phases in the clip as well some unfamiliar vocabulary. Over all once we got started I think it went pretty well. I asked her to review another 3 minute clip for our next session.
