Dominic Hoak TP 1

Last Thursday before class I met with my first tutoring partner, Bill. He is a 23 year old from Taiwan studying English at CIES and will be leaving towards the end of December. We spent the first session just talking and getting to know each other a little bit. He hopes to return to the United States and attend a school for engineering, but first he must take the TOEFL.  During our meeting we discussed the TOEFL a bit and the sections that it breaks down into. He said that he is most concerned about the speaking portion of the test and that is going to be the focus of our next meeting. He has a TOEFL preparation book which we will look at together, and review some of the tasks in order to create an atmosphere similar to the test for him to be prepared. I've also looked up a few exercises for us to incorporate into our tutoring time. After focussing on speaking for our next lesson I figure that we will move into a writing assessment to view his proficiency in other areas of the English language. He seems very well spoken and to understand what I was saying during our meeting. For that reason I am not too concerned with his listening, but mainly his productive skills such as writing and speaking.
