TP 2
On November 8th I had my second tutoring session with Li Su.
After what happened last time (video unavailable, etc.), I made sure to get
their early and test everything beforehand. I also spent a little more time in my
planning. Li Su had said she wanted to
work on her listening so I thought I would add reading to the mix and focus on
receptive skills. I checked the resources
on Blackboard for ideas. The Voice of America Special English website was a
perfect fit for my goal. At the last
session we had focused on everyday dialogue o this time I selected a news article
for reading, and a short video about the everglades. The article was a little long so I split it
into to avoid fatigue. After each of the two sections I had two factual
information questions and two state your opinion and explain questions. She did well on the opinion questions but
sometime the factual questions needed work. I made a note to work on that
later. The listening section went well
she had about 70% accuracy rate on the questions after we listened twice. We then went over some of the name of some
animals she was unfamiliar with that live in Florida (I made sure to warn her
about the dangerous ones). We had run
too long so I had to end our lesson there.
Great idea to split the audio. You are correct that fatigue can set in and make comprehension and focus very difficult.
