Preston Baker CP 1
I met my first conversation partner Torki, on Sunday. I was not sure what to expect, so the only thing I could do was to meet him and go for it. We met at the Governor's Square mall, next to the Starbucks. We mainly discussed things about where the cultures of we are from and the differences in America. Torki is 19, so he's pretty young to make such a far journey away from his family that he has lived with. This session at CIES is the first time he's been to The United States, but he has traveled around the Arabian peninsula. He told me that in Kuwait it is the custom for families to live together in one large house even after you get married. He enjoys it but I'm not sure I could live with my parents like that. Due to being so close to his family Torki says he gets homesick at times, but thankfully he has friends here to hang out with. They definitely enjoys their video games, that's one thing I know for certain. When the topic shifted to more academic matters Torki said came to CIES to increase his English skill so he could get a degree in Computer Engineering, but he isn't sure if that will be at FSU or elsewhere. After he finishes, he definitely plans to return home to Kuwait. Other than that the conversation itself was fine, although we did have a few breakdowns. I'm still looking for a bit of common ground between Torki and myself.

Preston, perhaps you could team up and meet with Torki and one or a few of his friends, along with their CP partners. This could help stimulate other areas of conversation.
