Class Observation 1 Alex
I observed Alex's Ramos' class Thursday at 1:00. The first thing I noticed upon seating myself in the back corner of the classroom was the incredible diversity of the classroom. I had obviously expected diversity but it was something else to be there in the room. There were Koreans, Vietnamese, Kuwaiti's, Turks, Colombians and more that I didn't get the chance to meet. After settling in, Ms. Ramos began her lesson. What instantly struck me was her tone of voice and calmness in teaching. She spoke slowly and pronounced each word with great clarity which, obviously made it a better learning environment for her students. Her lesson was very student centered as she had each student give a presentation that they had to have prepared and researched for. The students had various topics in which they were supposed to create a presentation for and teach to the rest of the class. Ms. Ramos was very encouraging and when students would misstep or struggle she facilitated a very comfortable environment for them to figure it out. The end result was a very comfortable and informal setting for learning that all the students seemed to enjoy.

Hey Alex, great description of your class observation! I hope to facilitate such a relaxed learning environment for my struggling future students. Was this a speaking class?
ReplyDeleteGood observation post, Alex. Keep in mind that the energy we exude can affect how our students feel in our classes. Keep it positive!
